I am still totally buzzing from what happened to me this week!
Last Thursday I received a call from the local radio station, BBC Radio Derby, asking me if I would be happy to do an interview as part of their ‘Inspirational Business Women’ series on the Sally Pepper show.
Wow! I was blown away. To be called inspirational and to be praised on the way I come across on my website and through my social media presence was just absolutely amazing! When you work in a virtual world, the most important thing to any business is making sure your personality and professionalism come across in just the right context.
So I took myself up to the BBC Radio Derby studios, totally nervous as I’d never done anything like this before. My hands were shaking and I had it running around in my head “Don’t mess this up”, “Stay on topic”, “oh my word! How many people are going to listen to me!…EEEK!” You know the usual concerns when you are out there representing your business for the first time ON THE RADIO!!!
Sally soon put me at ease with her genuine interest in my business model and how I organise my work around my family life . We discussed the virtual world and how I help my clients, we touched on how I got started and why I had decided to start my own business in the first place. I introduced Remote Associates to the listeners, and just how the set up works. The concept of the Virtual Assistant Industry is still relatively new, and there are still confused faces, when I mention what I do, so this was a great opportunity to spread the word to a large audience and raise awareness of the virtual world.
She also highlighted the fact that running your own business isn’t just a walk in the park, it is hard work and takes lots of determination and motivation. We talked about the positives and negatives of being a business owner, to ensure we were demonstrating a clear picture of taking that leap to do something you love. As always, I made it clear, that even though some days can be tough, those days are by far outweighed by the great days, and by the business relationships I build with my clients.
Talking about Remote Associates is one of my favourite pastimes (my poor friends and family), as I am so passionate about what I do and why I do it. It was a fantastic experience to spread the word (no matter how terrified I was about being on live radio) and one that I will never forget. I feel honoured to have been invited to take part in such an interesting series.
I’m hoping that the recording will be available soon so that I can share it with you.
If you didn’t manage to listen to the live show and would like to talk to me about Remote Associates and the VA world then I would love to hear from you, so please do get in touch.
